To save your selection, go under SELECT > SAVE SELECTION when you open the image, go to SELECTION > CHANNEL.
You can change the colour by going to IMAGE > ADJUSTMENTS > HUE/SATURATION
Hand selection tool shortcut: spacebar
Zoom in: ctrl + spacebar
Zoom out: ctrl + alt + spacebar
To add to a selection: hold down shift
To subtract from a selection: hold down alt
